Premier League Predictions Christmas Special: Match Days 18-20

Merry Christmas friends and in the footballing world Christmas does not mean eating Turkey and spending time with the family but rather it means three fixtures crammed into a very short period of time. So my Christmas gift (debatable) to you reader is that I will be predicting all the Christmas games in one go. Yes that’s all the Premier League games from boxing day right up to the 3rd round of the FA Cup. My predicting of 10 games is shoddy enough so when I try 30 in one go anything could happen. I will only be writing in detail about 10 of the games taking place over Christmas but will have scores for every single game.

Before we go on I’ve got a few shameless plugs. Firstly my twitter is @cameroneyles and please check out the home page of my blog One Game at a Time HERE if you have not already. Your support is always appreciated. Anyway enough of that let’s get on with the predicting!

Match Day 18

Watford v Crystal Palace

This game is really only of any real interest is that it is likely to be Big Sam’s first match in charge of Palace after they sacked Alan Pardew who won just six premier league fixtures through the whole of 2016. I think Palace should grind out a draw here as Watford can at times be very effective.

Prediction: 1-1

Arsenal v West Brom

Prediction: 1-0

Burnley v Middlesbrough

Prediction: 0-0

Chelsea v Bournemouth

This game will be slightly different for Chelsea as they will be missing both Diego Costa and Kante through suspension. Having said that I’m pretty sure with players like Hazard and Willian in their team they should have more than enough attacking talent to see off the Cherries.

Prediction: 2-0

Leicester City v Everton

Prediction: 2-2

Manchester United v Sunderland

Prediction: 3-1

Swansea City v West Ham

Prediction: 0-1

Hull v Manchester City

Prediction: 0-2

Liverpool v Stoke City

Prediction: 2-1

Southampton v Tottenham

Saints have been pretty good at home this season and I think this will be a very big test of Spurs’ top four credentials as they have yet to solidify  their place in the Champions League spots. Both teams have very good defences so I will go for a low scoring draw.

Prediction: 1-1

Match Day 19

Hull v Everton

Prediction: 0-1

Burnley v Sunderland

Prediction: 2-1

Chelsea v Stoke City

Prediction: 2-0

Leicester City v West Ham

The reason I am highlighting this game is that for me these two teams have probably been the disappointments of the season. We all suspected that there would be a drop off for Leicester City but it has been far too dramatic for my liking and the Foxes should be doing better. The Hammers should be doing better as well and at the start of the season probably anticipated another challenge for the European places. Anyway I think Leicester will win this one, they have been good at home.

Prediction: 2-1

Manchester United v Middlesbrough

A few weeks ago I was pretty confident the boys from Boro would get a point at Old Trafford but it seems United have finally got their act together. The narrative behind this game is the master v apprentice as Jose takes on Aitor. Also on a side note Man United’s inevitable £38 million signing has almost gone to Boro twice! He had a trial in 2013 and was not offered a contract and a loan deal collapsed last January. As for this game I think United will have too much for Boro.

Prediction: 1-0

Southampton v West Brom

Prediction: 1-1

Swansea City v Bournemouth

Prediction: 1-2

Liverpool v Manchester City

On paper this is probably the biggest game over the Christmas period and it could well determine who is Chelsea’s main rival for the title for the rest of the season. I’m going to back Liverpool here because I think the combination of their attack and home advantage should have enough to overhaul Man City.

Prediction: 2-1

Watford v Tottenham

Prediction: 0-1

Arsenal v Crystal Palace

I should probably talk about Arsenal at some point over the Christmas period as they descend into their seasonal crisis as the Wenger Out chants grow ever louder. I think its a bit early to write them off just yet but its clear that the gunners still don’t look like Premier League title winners. I expect Big Sam (presumably) to frustrate Arsenal here.

Prediction: 0-0

Match Day 20

Middlesbrough v Leicester City

Prediction: 1-0

Everton v Southampton

It is the Ronald Koeman derby as he faces his former team Saints for the second time this season and I think the Dutchman will have a much more enjoyable experience this time around and I expect the Toffees to win this game.

Prediction: 1-0

Manchester City v Burnley

Prediction: 3-0

Sunderland v Liverpool

West Brom v Hull

Prediction: 2-0

West Ham v Manchester United

It feels like these two teams have a match once a fortnight, they have faced each other so many times in 2016 and 2017 will be no different. United travel to the London stadium in who knows what form as its getting very hard to predict these games so far in advance with injuries and transfers to factor in as well. I’ll go for a high scoring draw.

Prediction: 2-2

Bournemouth v Arsenal

Prediction: 0-1

Crystal Palace v Swansea City

Prediction: 2-0

Stoke City v Watford

Prediction: 1-1

Tottenham v Chelsea

The final game of the Christmas fixture list is arguably also the biggest one. I fully expect Chelsea to be on 13 straight wins in this game but the law of averages suggests that the streak will have to end eventually. I don’t expect them to lose here but they have to drop points eventually don’t they?

Prediction: 1-1

Well done if you’ve managed to make it to the end of this absolutely monster set of predictions. There won’t be any more predictions until mid January but please head over to One Game at a Time for more content. Your comments are also very welcome and once again merry Christmas and a happy new year!
