Transfer Window January 2017: Who does every Premier League Club need to buy and sell? Part One

I hope you all had a merry Christmas friends but now that you’ve polished off your turkey and eaten that last mince pie it’s time to dig in to the serious business of the January Transfer Window. Buying that one extra player could be the difference between relegation and survival or the title and second place. So in this article I’m going to recommend the kind of player each club should buy and who they should sell.

Before we get started a follow on Twitter @cameroneyles would be most appreciated and please make sure you follow One Game at a Time so you never miss a post. Anyway on with the transfers!

Who they should buy? This one is quite hard as I think Arsenal have a pretty good squad. Perhaps another winger to back up the often inconsistent Ox.

Who they should sell? I think Carl Jenkinson’s time at the club is over. He rarely gets a game and also looks short in confidence. Danny Welbeck must also be considering his options as it seems unlikely he will break back into the team after his long injury layoff.

Who they should buy? Probably some better defenders as the Cherries have conceded 31 goals this season. Wouldn’t be surprised if they dipped into the Championship and signed defenders from there.

Who they should sell? I’m not sure Bournemouth particularly need to cash in on anybody desperately although fringe players like Lewis Grabban could probably do with being moved on.

Who they should buy? Burnley just need a bit more depth in general and that really encompasses all positions. Dyche has played a 3 man midfield at times this season and needs more cover there.

Who should they sell? Again mainly any fringe players. Andre Gray has been disappointing this season, only nagging a couple of goals but it’s definitely too early to be considering selling him.

Who should they buy? Probably cover for their defence but realistically they really do not need to change much, they are playing so well at the moment. Perhaps recall some of their loan players if they want cover they must have 100 out on loan.

Who should they sell? Chelsea have a few ageing players who don’t really cut it anymore. John Terry’s contract is up in the summer so he should be moving on soon regardless and Ivanovic should probably be sold as well.

Crystal Palace

Who they should buy? Definitely need another striker to help Benteke out as all their other forwards are injured. New centre backs and full backs are probably needed as well given how awful Palace’s defensive record is although I’m sure Big Sam is working on that.

Who they should sell? If they need extra cash then Zaha is their biggest asset and Spurs were interested last window. Other than the usual fringe players Palace probably need to hang on to everyone else.

Who they need to buy? Another winger. With the injury to summer pick up Bolasie Everton need a pacy winger to replace him and it looks like they may get that in Memphis Depay.

Who they need to sell? Everton have quite a few fringe players such as Cleverly, Niasse and Kone. They could all be sold and there’s been talk Ross Barkley could be shown the door but that’s a little premature for me.

Hull City

Who should they buy? It’s more a question of who shouldn’t they buy. We know Hull’s squad is desperately thin and Phelan needs to buy players with funds he does not necessarily have.

Who should they sell? No one ideally. They need to strengthen their squad not weaken it. Hernandez could be sold if they desperately need cash.

Leicester City

Who they should buy? Mendy hasn’t worked out as a Kante replacement yet so another central midfielder might be in order. Also additions to their defence as Huth and Morgan have been so disappointing this season

Who should they sell? Mahrez has been poor this season so it’s tempting to cash in on him but I would advise against that. Ulloa may want to leave due to lack of game time as well.

Who they should buy? Goal keeper is probably top of the list given that Karius has not adjusted to the Premier League yet. Joe Hart would be my choice but that would probably have to wait to the summer.

Who they should sell? I’m sure Liverpool fans would agree with me here that the quicker Alberto Moreno is sold the better. Now might also be the best time to cash in on Sturridge if he wants more game time.

Manchester City

Who should they buy? Defenders. For all the attacking talent City have they need some new defenders all across the back four. Either of Southampton’s centre backs would be a good investment.

Who should the sell? Their full backs are all over 30 and clearly can’t cope with the demands of a Guardiola side and for me should be sold and replaced with younger full backs.

Right that’s all for part one. Part two will be up before the end of the year but until then enjoy what’s left of 2016 and feel free to leave a comment.
